Well done to everyone who competed, helped out and sponsored Steve Brand's Captains Day on Saturday, the weather was horrible in the morning and big thank you must go out to our Greenkeeper Malc Mitchell for ensuring the day could be finished, it was a real pity as a tremendous amount of work was put in to the organisation of the day and the course preparation, I must say the greens were magnificent, although I played in the afternoon and avoided the rain they were still very true and had a great pace to them also. Steve had 161 players take part although understandably not everyone finished but the absolutely fantastic figure of £2,725.36 was raised for Steve's chosen charity MAGPAS, well done once again to everyone involved and a quick shout to all in the half way house, the cakes and refreshments were top notch. The main prize winners are listed below and there is a list of all the spot prizes on display on the Results board.
Best Gross - Pete Corley 76 Best Nett - Danny Huddlestone 40 pts
Division I Rob Edwards 38 pts Steve Ray 37 pts
Division II Norm Wainwright 38 pts Garry Richardson 37 pts
Division III Nigel Bryan 40 pts Brian Florence 38 pts
Best Lady Ruth Rickett 32 pts Roxy Jones 31 pts
Best Guest Daniel Clarke 41 pts Mark Mansfield 37 pts
Sunday's Stableford saw Ash Anthony 35 pts top the overall scoring also taking Division I from Jim Dudley 34 pts and Alan Buckby on 32 pts, Division II and III saw all of the prize winners score 33 pts just being split on count back, John Unwin pipped Andre Pringle and Andy Hunt in Division II while Eddie Gachette topped Division III from Bruce Anthony and Stuart Pettit, what are the chances of that very strange. The Two's Sweep winners were Ash Anthony x2, John Unwin, Andy Hunt and Luke Freeman.
Well it is Open week, the best golf tournament in the world, although I don't agree with decision to grant the TV rights to Sky, they will do a fantastic job and the coverage all week with the practice ground and interviews behind the scenes has been excellent, live coverage starts at 6.30 am on Thursday and runs through to 8 pm. It is going to be fascinating to watch it all unfold, apparently it has been wet in Scotland just like the rest of the Country! So the course will play a little softer and the wind is not expected to be to strong either, so it could be a low scoring event, sit back and enjoy.
