Following the sad passing of ex Captain Dennis Hartley here are some reflections by his very good friend Reg Boot
"Dennis moved to Crowland over 20 years ago, he came in the George & Angel one evening in police overalls exceedingly shaken having been hijacked at knifepoint for what was thought to be a cargo of cigarettes. I dispensed large quantities of alcoholic medication and ensured he was bedded down for the night. Dennis had stopped playing golf for many years, having played in Liverpool with a handicap of 1, I persuaded him to join Thorney, playing off 10 he subsequently became Captain in 2004. Something of a marmite character but knew golf inside out. Despite very ancient and worn clubs, he played a good game, generously coaching free of charge and had a remarkable ability to fill in the scorecard at the end of the round, even in a four ball. On returning from foreign golf trips most golf bags contained cartons of B&H, whether they smoked or not, and great distances were travelled to obtain litres of scotch at the cheapest price, regardless of fuel costs. All in all Dennis was a character I doubt we will see the likes of again".
Sadly missed but fondly remembered by his friends.
Congratulations to Terry Hawkins, Chris Hawkins, Jonathan Hawkins and Joe Pasqualino who scored a fantastic score of 53.6 in winning Sunday's Van Kerro Texas Scramble, that is some score and I certainly can't remember a lower score than that, well played chaps. The best of the rest as it were was the team of Ian McDonald, Paul Harford, Andre Pringle & Gav Heaton 57.6 in second with Darren Hunt, Wayne Gray, Sean Evans & Dave Bridges 57.8 in third, Pete Corley, Keith Manning, Steve Nelson & Paul Bishop 58.4 in fourth and Bruce Anthony, Scott Thompson, Pat Nolan & Steve Hurry 58.7 fifth. The nearest the pins went to Stuart Pettit 2nd Hole, myself on the 7th Hole, Andy Phillips 11th Hole, John Crouch 17th Hole.
The Winter League draw was made last Sunday, please to see the Leagues here, all group games have to be played by 31st December, let battle commence. The Winter Series Stablefords start this Saturday, please give the shop a call to book a time.

WINTER STABLEFORD SERIES - Starts 5th November
The Winter Series of Stablefords starts on Saturday 5th November, there will be six events please see dates below. Entry will be £20 to cover entry to all events including Two's Sweep, there will be prizes in Two Divisions for all events and overall prizes at the end for the leading scores with the best four out of six to count, don't worry if you can't play in all of them you can enter each one individually also and if you play in a minimum of four this qualifies for the overall prizes. It will be arrange your own games and book a tee time. The idea is to offer some competitive golf over the winter period alongside the Winter League, please ask in the Pro Shop for more details.
