Last week, it is fair to say, was a mix of weather conditions. Saturday saw all team matches cancelled with torrential rain briefly flooding the greens at both Thorney and Sutton Bridge where the A Team were supposed to be playing, both matches have been rearranged for Saturday 28th June. The C Team actually got started against Toft but I don't think they were too disappointed when they had to come off. What a difference a day makes though, when I played on Sunday you really wouldn't have known the amount of rain that had fallen the day before, the greens putted fantastic and there was no standing water at all, the course is playing exceptionally well at the moment.
It was a busy week of competitions, Wednesday's Midweek Stableford saw some good scoring in both Divisions. Brendan Greville topped Division I on count back from Luke Lawson, both scoring 39 pts with Graham Howden 37 pts in third. Gary King also scored 39 pts winning Division II from Paul Rawlings 38 pts and John Sheppard 35 pts. The Two's sweep winners and qualifiers were Wayne Gray, Paul Fisher & Malc Wiles.
The weather was lovely on Sunday for the Famous Grouse Foursomes. Although a little windy perhaps, foursomes is a great form of the game but one we don't play very often and it is certainly testing. Darren Hunt & Wayne Gray produced the excellent score of 79-12=67 to win the trophy from Keith Howsam & Gary Kew 83-13=70 and myself and my son Ben 75-3=72 in third. This was the first time we had played foursomes together and it was good fun, we are still talking to each other as well which is always a bonus! Lee Jones & Gav Heaton 83-10=73 were fourth and John Little & Alan Brown 92-18=74 fifth.
The Bank Holiday Monday Stableford produced an excellent entry, Jeff Neveling 40 pts lead the way in Division I from Mick Hinch 39 pts and Tom Bingley 37 pts, Division II saw Jason Willis 39 pts come out on top from Dep Patel and Danny Phillips on 36 pts while Paul Rawlings topped a very successful week to win Division III on count back from Ian Booty and Paul Bishop after all tied on 35 pts. Dave Bridges, Steve Butler, Mick Hinch, Nigel Brown, Malc Cameron, Ashley Anthony, Gav Heaton & Jason Willis all secured a share of the Two's Sweep and qualified for the end of year Finale.

BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth
The BMW PGA Championship from Wentworth also experienced a cross section of weather, but also one of the most dramatic finishes for a while. The last round saw lots of changes on the leaderboard with plenty of birdies, bogeys or worse and the odd chip in. Rory McIlroy came out on top though after an excellent final round of 66 coming home in and 32 birdieing the final two holes for a one shot victory. This was after Thomas Bjorn had held a five shot lead going into the final round, Bjorn had played some amazing golf up until that point shooting 62 in the first round and an amazing back nine of 30 on Saturday which saw him birdie 7 out of the last 8 holes.
Shane Lowry and Luke Donald also went close but this victory has been coming for Rory, who has started the year very well with lots of top ten finishes. Rory (like myself!) plays with a full bag of Nike Golf Clubs and he used the new Nike VR X3X Toe wedge last week to great effect, he also use the new RZN Golf Ball and wears the excellent Lunar Control II golf shoes. I have been wearing this shoe since it was introduced, they are exceptionally light and comfortable but unlike a lot of other lightweight shoes they have a sole unit which offers great grip and stability.
We have a Nike Demo Day HEAD to HEAD Challenge on Wednesday the 25th June where you can give all of these excellent products a try.
