Hideki Matsuyama defends the Phoenix Open.

Hideki Matsuyama is the hottest golfer out there at the moment, not only did he defend the title he won last year, this victory was his fifth win in his last nine worldwide starts. Matsuyama uses Srixon irons, Cleveland wedges and the new Srixon Z Star golf ball. I can't guarantee that you will play quite as well as him straight away but I have been very impressed with the new Srixon Z series of irons. They're incredibly well made, look and feel great and offer a club to suit all categories of golfer with a very wide range of custom options with no up charge for most shaft and grip choices, they are well worth a look if you are thinking of changing your clubs.

The new Cleveland RTX-3 wedge has also been very well received and is our best selling wedge, again with a wide range of loft, bounce and shaft options. The new Srixon Z Star ball will be in store towards the end of February, look out for a great launch offer. It was also great to see Sergio win in Dubai although it didn't go quite so well for Tiger Woods over the last couple of events. I am not sure we will ever see him back to his imperious best, I guess the big question is, will he continue playing if he doesn't feel he can compete.

 

Winter Stableford Series

It is the penultimate stableford in the Winter Series this Saturday. We have Ian Weller 140 and Gary Kew 138 who are the leading scores at present, but there are plenty of members who have only played three events so far, meaning there is plenty of time to challenge them yet. If you would like to play please give the shop a call, remember it is an individual event also so don't worry if you haven't played any of the previous events.

Leaders After Four Events

Ian Weller with a great score of 140 points. Gary Kew is only just behind him with a score of 138, there is a slight gap between second and third place Pete Howard with a score of 127 points.

The next Winter Series of  stableford is Saturday, 11 February. There are only two events left now and with the best four scores to count out of the possible six events, there is still the opportunity for the leader board to change, we have plenty of members on good scores having only played two or three events. The last Winter Series stableford is on Sunday, 19 February. Please make sure you get yourself entered.

Captain's Drive In - Sunday, 26 February

The entry sheet for the Captain's Drive In on Sunday, 26 February is now open. The format is a Texas Scramble in teams of four with a shotgun start at 8.30am. Please get your names down early to welcome Ian, Paul and Gill into their roles.

We now have the new Ping i200 Irons available for custom fit. This NEW iron is made for forgiveness but has very clean looks and offers workability, so is aimed at the golfer that likes the look of a thinner club but doesn't want to sacrifice the room for error of a full game improvement cavity back. They have an active elastomer back for feel and a thinner face to give a soft feel while offering a powerful flight, there is new weighting for the toe again to assist in off centre hits. Following on from the great looking iBlade these irons have a very similar finish.
