Diane does the double

Congratulations to Diane Willis who won both the Ladies Club Championship gross and nett titles at the weekend, just piping Ruth Rickett by one shot in the gross and overnight leader Anne Edwards by three for the nett. It is the Men's Club Championship this weekend, if you would like to play please give the Pro Shop a call or book in online through HDID.

Sunday medal

The scoring was hot in Sunday's Medal, Andrew Locke 86-24=62 and Micky Burch 80-16=64 being the standout scores winning Division 3 and 2 respectively as well as Carlton Grogan 83-18=65 finishing behind Andrew. Rob Drewery 77-10=67 took Division 1 from Kev Rayner 80-12=68 and Gary Kew 81-12=69, Lee Watts 77 was the best gross on count back from Rob. Paul Rawlings 87-16=71 and Alan Stokes 88-17=71 were behind Micky and Sean Briant 92-23=69 was third in Division 3. The two's sweep winners and qualifiers were Clint Allen, Richie Lloyd, Andre Pringle, Lee Watts, Paul Rawlings, Thomas Holman and Andrew Locke.

It's not just about hitting the green…

If you really want to lower your scores this year it's important that you don’t just settle for hitting the green, but instead focus on hitting the right part to avoid three-putt territory. This will be a key consideration for the pros at Royal Birkdale this week, just take the 17th green for example:

While aiming for the middle of the green is usually a safe bet, if the flag is on a tier an approach to the wrong level (red zone above) will often lead to a three putt.

TRUST YOUR CLUBS

Having faith in your clubs and knowing their yardages allows you to be confident and aggressive when you need to go at a flag that is hidden by a hazard or tier (green zone above).
