Thorney Golf Centre - PGA Golf Professional

Danny Phillips produced the round of the week in Sunday's Stableford, Danny shot a gross 73 to score an excellent 48 pts!! Not surprisingly this was good enough for victory in Division II from Dep Patel 39 pts and Pat Reidy 38 pts. The scoring, although good, was not quite so hot in the other Divisions, Paul Chiverton 39pts topped Division I from Ben Templeman 36 pts and John Zajac 35 pts, Declan Morgan 40 pts just beat Darren Herriot on count back in Division III with Carlton Grogan 37 pts in third. Two's were a rarity with only John Zajac, Stuart McDougall and Danny Phillips securing a share in the Sweep and a place in the Final.

Scoring was also good in the Midweek Stableford, Darren Hunt 41 pts secured Division I from Ben Templeman and Andy Brown on 40 pts with Ian Booty 39 pts winning Division II from Des Chapman and Paul Rawlings 35 pts. The Two's Sweep was shared by Dave Mann, Lee Watts, Robert Drewery & Ian Booty.

Being a fellow Nike Swoosh Staff player (!!) it was great to see Rory win the Open Championship. Some of the golf played by all the contenders was great to watch especially on the last day when the pursuing pack, including Ricky Fowler, Sergio Garcia, Adam Scott and Jim Furyk, threw some good golf at Rory with the six shot overnight lead shrinking to two. He held firm though and added his third major to the US Open and USPGA titles he has already tucked away at the age of twenty five. His first two rounds were an exhibition of golf and his finish to the third round was exceptional, with two eagles in the last three holes the lead was well established, I strongly believe when Rory brings his A Game he is a little bit ahead of everyone else at the moment and also great to watch when in full flow. There are plenty of great players coming up behind him though and the crop of young players is very good at the moment, it should make for a great end of season especially culminating with the Ryder Cup which is also a great spectacle and is shaping up to be a close one again.

Wilson Demo Day-Wednesday 6th August 2pm-6pm

With the great success of our Wilson Demo Day earlier in the season we will be running another one on Wednesday 6th August 2pm-6pm, Wilson are celebrating their Century this year and continue to make excellent innovative products, so why not come down on the day and give them a go.

FREE Junior Coaching

Nick is running a host of coaching sessions throughout the summer starting with a Taster Day on Wednesday 23rd July 10am-12pm and 2pm-4pm, these sessions are then followed up with focused lessons concentrating on all aspects of the game spread out over the Summer Holiday. All of these sessions are completely FREE and available to both members and non members. If you would like any further information please pop in to the shop next time you are at the club.

Lady Captains Day-Saturday 9th August

Ladies Captain Roxy Jones is holding her Captain's Day on Saturday 9th August, the format is a FUN Stableford in Teams of Four and the entry sheet is on display in the Member's Bar. It is sure to be a great day and will be very popular so please come along and support both Roxy and her chosen Charity Peterborough Cancer Treatment Appeal (PCTA).
