Competition news

Xmas Scramble 30/12/17

I was lucky enough to draw an excellent team for Saturday's Xmas Scramble as myself, Ruth Rickett, Stefan Brand & Alan Stokes scored 58.1 to edge out Sean Evans, Ady Bonnett, Pete Roberts & Colin Lockwood with 60.2.

A big shout out to everybody that played, having heard about the terrible theft of the donation box from Thorpe Hall over the Xmas period, an impromptu whip round raised £125 in support of the fantastic work carried out by the Sue Ryder team, what a great gesture by all involved.

Nearest the Pin - 2nd Hole, Darren Heriot (3.84m). 7th Hole, Giovanni Rizzo (2.15m). 11th Hole, Andre Pringle (2.80m). 17th Hole, Vinnie Demilio (2.30m).


Winter Stableford Series 2017/18

We are now half way through the Winter Series and Michelle Pringle has a commanding lead after the three rounds, but with four scores to count there is still a long way to go and a lot of points still to play for.

Be prepared...

It’s common knowledge that fewer people play golf during the winter months, which makes both our course and our pro shop a little quieter. During that extra time we got to thinking: is there such a thing as bad weather for golf?

The New Year is upon us, which gives you the chance to do something different and start afresh with your game. Regardless of how 2017 went on the course, you’ll want to improve over the next 12 months and this is something we can certainly help you to achieve.

Let’s talk golfing goals
Having something to work towards is a great way of keeping yourself motivated throughout the year, as long as it’s a realistic target, so here’s a task for you:

Write down three achievable goals for your 2018 season

These could range from lowering your handicap by a shot or hitting more greens in regulation, to playing at least one round each week. Once you’ve done this:

Jot down some ways to help you achieve each of your goals

Sometimes we can get transfixed on our end goal without thinking about how we go about reaching it, but it’s only by making some smaller changes that we give ourselves the best chance of success.

For example, if one of your goals was to get your handicap down then the best way to go about this is to identify the weakest parts of your game and try to improve them through a series of lessons. We’d love to hear what your goals are for 2018, so please come and share them with us the next time you’re in the shop.
