Club Championship weekend always produces lots of excitement, good shots, drama and also the odd disaster hole. This weekend was no different, congratulations to Ben Templeman Club Champion Gross, Graham Howden Club Champion Nett and Pat Bloom Ladies Club Champion Gross and Nett.
Ben Templeman 75+78+153 won the Gross Prize a year after finishing runner up to Ben Cottingham with a play off victory over another previous winner Brendan Greville 79+74+153, third place went to overnight leader Darren Hunt 71+83+154. Darren's round of 71 on Saturday was the low round of the weekend and saw his handicap reduced from nine down to six, his nett 62 also gave him the lead by three shots in that section over Graham Howden's 65. Graham, or "Kiwi" as he is affectionally known, shot another low round of 67 on Sunday to secure the Nett Trophy by two shots from Stuart Stirling 70+64=134, Stuart's excellent round of 64 also secured the Fisher Cup for the best nett score on Sunday. A special shout out must go to Sean Briant who also had a great weekend, Sean has worked exceptionally hard on his game and it paid off with scores of 69+67=136 to secure third place in the Nett section, to top that on Sunday he also scored a Hole in One on the 7th Hole, what a great weekend!
We had just ninety people take part in what is a tough weekend, there was the obvious fair share of highs and lows with a few big scores that ruined otherwise good rounds but it was great so see everybody. 36 Holes is a tough format but golf is great game and if it wasn't your weekend it may well be next time you play. The game often beats us up, it is fascinating, rewarding and frustrating but we keep coming back for more because we love the challenge of it.
Congratulations to Pat Bloom also on winning both the Ladies Club Championship Nett and Gross prizes. The Two's qualifiers on Saturday were Jim Dudley, Dave Buckle, Steve Butler, Alan Clack, Steve Brand, Dave Lamb & Ben Cottingham, and Sunday Paul Chiverton, John Unwin, Carlton Grogan, Steve Walker, Dave Gibson, Robert Drewery, Lee Woodward and Sean Briant as well as his Hole in One. The top eight finishers in the Gross section have qualified for the Scratch Matchplay, please see below for the draw.
