Competition news

St George's Medal

Congratulations to Tom Wadsworth who scored 83-18=65 to take the St George's Medal on Sunday. Rob Drewery 77-9=68 took Division 1 and the best gross on countback from Ben Templeman. Alan Stokes 89-17=72 topped Division 2 from Ady Bingham 88-14=74 and Lee McQuade 88-19=69 was a little unlucky to come up against Tom in Division 3.

The twos sweep winners were John Zajac, Richie Lloyd, Rob Drewery, Lee McQuade & Faz Mohamed.

Division 1

1st - Rob Drewery 77-9 = 68, 2nd - Pete Corley 79-6 = 73 bb9, 3rd - Ben Templeman 77-4 = 73

Best Gross Rob Drewery = 77 bb9

Division 2

Cobra Demo Day - Monday 14th May 1pm-5pm

The new 2018 Cobra F8 Range will be available to try on the day. The F8 driver has a host of new game improvement and performance features with the first being a CNC milled face, Cobra say that these new faces are thinner, hotter and more precise offering faster ball speeds and more consistency across the whole face which with the new dual roll technology will help optimize launch and spin for shots that are not hit in the centre of the club.

The F8 and F8+ drivers are also very aero dynamic with the introduction a new crown and sole to increase clubhead speeds and subsequently distance. They both have adjustable lofts and weights to fine tune the ball flight. It is fair to say every manufacturer always claims more distance, accuracy and user ability with their new clubs, I have definitely seen that modern clubs perform much better on those shots that you don't quite middle.

Cobra was our top selling fairway wood in 2017 and the new F8 has built on that success with the introduction a new Baffler Rail design to help tackle every lie along with the new aero features also found in the driver. Cobra now has a very extensive range of clubs to suit every level of golfer with some very exciting innovative designs and products including One Length and the Cobra Connect app which when linked to your phone provides a tremendous amount of data on accuracy and distance, so why not come down and give them a try, please contact the shop to book an appointment if you would like a fitting.

Urethane cover? So what...

A common phrase we hear here in the shop is: “It’s round and white, it can’t be that different”. The truth is that every single golf ball is unique in some way – whether it’s the ball’s core, layers or dimple pattern – but there is one thing that all premium balls have in common…

Try Urethane with the Dx3 Urethane
Like all tour-level golf balls, the Wilson Staff Dx3 Urethane boasts a Urethane cover, which sets the bar for cover materials.

Urethane – a soft and flexible polymer – will give you the highest possible spin rates combined with the best feel; benefits you will really notice when hitting chip and pitch shots.

However, if you like to play lower flighted chip-and-runs you might prefer other options in Wilson Staff’s range that are made with Ionomer covers. While this type of cover doesn’t generate as much spin, it is slightly more durable and offers a cheaper alternative.

As you can see on these 50-yard pitch shots, the extra spin from the Urethane cover ball on the right helps it to stop much quicker than the Ionomer cover ball on the left, which rolls out on landing.
