Fantastic Francesco Congratulations to Jo Bell and Jackie Knight who are our Ladies Club Champions gross and nett respectively, well played Ladies. There was also another big event played last weekend! What a great event The Open Championship was and what a fantastic performance Francesco Molinari produced in winning his first Major. I was lucky enough to attend a clinic a couple of years ago with Francesco, he is a genuinely nice guy and it was very impressive watching him hit balls, he was like a machine, swing after swing with the ball flying off like tracer bullets. It is obviously very difficult to win a Major, but he just seemed to take it in his stride and he did it while playing with Tiger Woods in the last round, which can bring its own issues with the crowds very much focusing on him without consideration for his playing partner. It was great to see Tiger contending again though and he had a real chance to win, which I was not sure we would ever see again. Bruce Anthony 83-18=65 won the overall Medal on Sunday, with Paul Day 74-5=69 taking Division 1 and the Best Gross, Steve Leonard 83-15=68 just pipped Thomas Holman 84-16=68 on count back in Division 2. Malc Wiles scored nett 71 to finish second in Division 3 despite two eights and a ten on his card! He has been suitably cut! The Twos Sweep winners were Clint Allen, Paul Day, Nigel Bunn, Mark Weston, Paul Rawlings, Ady Bingham, Gary Kew, Alan Willis & Malc Wiles. It is Stuart and Cherry's Captains Day this Saturday 28th, if you haven't put your name down and would like to play there are a few limited times left, please give the Pro Shop or Members Bar a call.

Are you the type of golfer who considers the danger ahead of you and plans accordingly, or do you pull a driver from the bag on every par-4 and par-5 without a blink? If you’re the latter then you need to read on. |
Consider the danger You hear pros talk a lot about the ‘smart shot’ in their post-round interviews. If you’re on the tee and there’s a bunker, ditch or other hazard around the distance that your driver or fairway wood normally flies, then make sure you change club to one that takes the trouble out of play, as displayed in this graphic. While you’ll have a slightly longer shot to the green, you’ll greatly reduce the chance of a big number. | |
|
Know your numbers Of course, key to all of this is knowing how far each of your woods carries. If you’re looking to add more distance and control to your game, come and test the Cleveland Launcher HB driver, fairway and hybrid. If you have a fitting we can hit all three in a range of different specifications until we find your ideal set-up for the course. |
