New PING i210 and i500 irons PING have released two new models this week, the i210 replaces the i200 iron and has a larger and softer elastomer insert which activates at impact for improved feel on the i200, the long irons are larger and offer improved forgiveness while the shorter irons are slightly smaller for feel and consistency. The i500 iron is a complete new category and is aimed at the golfer that likes the look of a blade behind the ball but still needs distance and forgiveness, they are constructed in a similar way to metal woods and have a hollow construction, both models are well worth a try and we have demos available for both in our custom fitting section.

Golf jargon can be confusing. Take drivers for example; why is there a 460cc limit set by golf's governing bodies and what does this actually mean? |
Why is driver head size limited? Driver heads are measured in volume and are limited to 460 cubic centimetres (cc). This limit is enforced to stop technology diminishing the skill level needed to play well off the tee. What are the benefits of larger heads? Playing a 460cc driver, like the Srixon Z 565, gives you the biggest head possible, which means you can miss the middle of the face now and then and still hit a good shot because they tend to be extremely forgiving. What about smaller heads? Smaller heads, like the 445cc Srixon Z 765, create less drag as they move through the air, so should give you faster swing speeds, which translate to faster ball speeds and more distance, but are a little less forgiving than a larger 460cc headed driver. |
