Wildcard Wednesday The Ryder Cup is only a few weeks away now and automatic qualifying has finished, the European Team is Tommy Fleetwood, Tyrell Hatton, Rory McIIroy, Francesco Molinari, Alex Noren, Thorbjorn Oleson, Jon Rahm and Justin Rose. By the time you read this Thomas Bjorn will also have selected his four wildcard choices, there is a fair choice of top quality players with Ryder Cup experience which maybe crucial with the amount of rookies that have automatically qualified. Ian Poulter, Paul Casey, Henrik Stenson, Sergio Garcia, Rafael Cabrera Bello, Thomas Pieters, Russel Knox, Matt Fitzpatrick and maybe even Matt Wallace, who produced a very impressive finish in winning the last qualifying event at the Made in Denmark, have a chance of a pick. |
The American team is also looking pretty impressive with Rickie Fowler, Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka, Patrick Reed, Webb Simpson, Jordan Spieth, Justin Thomas and Bubba Watson. Captain Jim Furyk will announce three of his wild card picks this week and one next week. I am sure even though being one of the Captain's assistants, Tiger Woods, will be selected on recent form. I am also sure that Phil Mickelson will be picked. One player that must be in is Bryson Dechambeau who leads the FedEx rankings after winning the last two events, it is always a great event but these two teams look very strong, there is going to be some great golf.

New PING i210 and i500 irons PING have released two new models this week, the i210 replaces the i200 iron and has a larger and softer elastomer insert which activates at impact for improved feel on the i200, the long irons are larger and offer improved forgiveness while the shorter irons are slightly smaller for feel and consistency. The i500 iron is a complete new category and is aimed at the golfer that likes the look of a blade behind the ball but still needs distance and forgiveness, they are constructed in a similar way to metal woods and have a hollow construction, both models are well worth a try and we have demos available for both in our custom fitting section.

Gapping is vitally important to any golfer. Being able to pick a club out of the bag and knowing exactly how far you can strike the ball will make for more confident shots, as you won’t be constantly wondering if you should club up or club down. |
Not just for wedges Gapping is often associated with the shorter clubs in your bag, but it's just as important to make sure you pay attention to the gaps between your longer clubs, too. Good gapping would see you have equal gaps between clubs that are no bigger than 15 yards, as displayed in the green illustration below. In contrast, bad gapping would leave you with uneven or large distances between clubs, often over 20 yards or under 10. Having equal gaps throughout your bag will mean you are much closer with your next club, so you won’t have to manufacture shorter/longer swings or hit soft/hard shots, which is where a lot of problems begin. |
Being able to know exactly how far each club goes can be even more helpful if you have a GPS device telling you the exact distance between your ball and the pin. So if you're still guessing how far you hit each club, come and speak to a member of the team. We can guarantee it's costing you shots. |
