Pete & Colin take the Sly Salvers Congratulations to Colin Burton who won the Derek Sly Salver with 86-21=65 while Pete Corley secured the James Sly Salver with a gross 79. Matt Deegan 79-7=72 just lost out on count back to Pete 79-6=73 in the Salver but did pip him in Division 1 of the Medal with Andy Phillips 86-12=74 in third. Pete Howard 88-16=72 topped Division 2 from Declan Morgan 92-17=75, not surprisingly after his excellent score in very difficult conditions Colin also took Division 3 from Keith Manning 95-19=76 after count back from Chris Waller 94-18=76, Chris and Keith were also the only winners in the Twos Sweep. The weather conditions for Sunday's Stableford were considerably better and that certainly showed in the scoring, Gav Heaton on 42pts was the top score of the day taking Division 1 from Pete Corley on 39pts and Keith Howsam on 38pts. Division 2 saw a three way tie on 40pts with Pete Howard doing the double after also winning Division 2 on Saturday, Eddie Gachette and Jeremy Knight were second and third respectively. Colin Burton on 37pts couldn't quite do the double in Division 3 as Faz Mohammed on 40pts came out on top this time with Angelo Antonucci had 35pts in third. The Twos Sweep winners were James Sly, Eddie Gachette, Bruce Anthony, John Lavender & Nick Watson. Please see below for the latest list of Qualifiers for the Twos Final on Saturday 20th October. Entries are now open for the Winter League, please see below for details. Click here for the Twos Final. |

Sometimes it's nice to reminisce about the good times. When it comes to golf, the days of persimmon woods, small clubheads and hitting balls which were hard as a rock are long gone - but it can help to take a trip down memory lane to remind us of just how much technology has developed, particularly in the case of drivers. |
Time tunnel
Take Srixon for example; you might have been lucky enough to own its 'revolutionary' W-506 driver way back in 2006. A 450cc clubhead, no adjustability and a titanium construction meant the W-506 was possibly one of the most intimidating clubs on the market - which made it even sweeter when you crushed one right down the middle. Fast-forward to the present day and Srixon has released its most technologically advanced driver to date in the form of Z 785. Its lightweight carbon crown is far more forgiving than the W-506's titanium equivalent, and the Quick Tune system on the Z 785 means you can adjust the club to your individual swing, giving you straighter, longer drives off the tee. So, whilst it's nice to think about your first ever driver, it's probably time to get up to speed with the latest models such as the Z 785. Who knows? Maybe in another 10 years time, you'll be looking back on the Z 785 with as much fondness as the W-506! |
