Garry Richardson secured overall victory in this seasons opening competition, the March Hare Medal. We had pretty much a record entry and it was great to see so many people battling against the elements. The first Medal of the year is always tough; the course plays much longer off the White Tees, the ball is generally not running far, it's cold and having a medal card in your hand again adds a bit of pressure.
This resulted in the competition standard scratch score rising by 2 to 73, Paul Harford won Division I with a score of gross 80, nett 70 from Brian Harrison (gross 85, nett 73) and Terry Hawkins (gross 84, nett 73). Brendan Greville took the Gross prize with a score of 78. Pete Howard lead the way in Division II (gross 87, nett 73) from Jon Hawkins (gross 87, nett 74) and Luke Lawson (gross 92, nett 76). Garry (gross 87, nett 69) was the best overall score on the day also topping Division III from Paul Bishop (gross 95, nett 74) and Nigel Bryan (gross 95, nett 75).
The Two's Sweep winners were John McCann, Sean Evans, Paul Hydes, Andy Hunt, Ces Baxter and Ian Booty.
The WGC Cadillac Championship was a very entertaining watch, Patrick Reed secured a one shot victory over European golfer Jamie Donaldson and Bubba Watson. However, the main point of interest was the extensive changes to the course, after last years event they pretty much ripped up the whole course, every blade of grass was replaced, new putting surfaces, the previous course had water in play on 6 holes and the re-design has increased that to 14. This certainly showed when the wind blew on Friday, bearing in mind the top 68 golfers in the world were competing the amount of balls that ended up in the water that day was staggering. I don't know the exact number in the end but with a few holes to play there had been 104 on that one day. The Tour players obviously don't experience wind of that speed very often, wind of that speed is a regular occurrence on the Lakes course! So don't feel too badly if you hit it in the water, playing golf in high winds is difficult and water is unforgiving!
New Grip Bar
We have installed a Grip Bar in the shop now, I am sure this will make a big difference in how you select your grips from now on, grips that are too small for the size of your hand can lead to pulled shots with over active hand action and if the grip is too large it can stifle your hand action leading to pushed or sliced shots, also if your grips are worn you will almost certainly being gripping the club too tightly, especially in the winter when there is not so much moisture in your hand. We can now measure your hand and have a full range of grips with varying amounts of tape underneath for you to try first, if your grips are the wrong size this does not necessarily mean you have to invest in new grips, if they are in good condition we can add layers of tape underneath. We are running a Special Offer at the moment, if you have your irons re-gripped we will do your woods for FREE .
