Con Lindgren, Dave Deeping and Sue Stamper drove into office this weekend, all of them hitting good tee shots in very chilly conditions, which in fairness was better than the wind and the rain later in the day. The weather didn't dampen anybody's spirits though and £180 was raised on the day for this years chosen charities; the Teenage Cancer Trust, East Anglian Air Ambulance and Riding for the Disabled, so well done to everybody that took part.
Thirty teams took part with Bruce Anthony, Steve Hurry and Denis Suter leading the way with a fantastic 92 pts, Brendan Greville, Declan Morgan and Richard Cooper scored 84 pts for second place followed by Gordon Kind, John Rickett and Gerry Cannings on 82 with Nigel Bunn, Lee Jones and Lee Woodward in fourth on 79 pts. Darren Hunt, 1,95m, was nearest in two on the fourth hole and Andy Everitt was closest to a very tricky pin position on the 17th Hole at 3.08m, the number of lost balls on the day was correctly guessed by Nigel Clare at 136.
The competition season will soon be on us now, all of the March competitions are now available for booking. Please give the shop a call or pop in next time you are at the club, we will be starting competitions from 7.30 this year so there is a new time slot available from 7.30 until 8am, the rest of the time slots remain the same. To accommodate this earlier start the shop will be open from 7am on a competition day.

Countdown to the Ryder Cup 2016 at Hazeltine has begun with the announcement of both team Captains - Darren Clarke will lead the European Team, he is sure to be a popular Captain and more than capable of continuing the European's amazing team spirit. The Americans will be lead by Davis Love III who was the Captain at Medinah in 2012 when Europe produced the amazing comeback on the final day. This appointment was somewhat of a surprise with Fred Couples being rumored to be the favourite before hand, however I am sure Davis will be looking to make amends for Medinah. Sixteen of the top 25 players in the world will be competing at this week's Honda Classic being held at the PGA National Resort, home of the Bear Trap. Rory will be looking to continue his run of results, this is always an excellent tournament to watch and the quality of this year's field should ensure another great event with lots of drama.

Set your goals for 2015...
What are your goals for this season? How can you improve your performance and enjoyment of the game? Spring will soon be here and the competition season will be off and running. It is a good idea to set your goals for the coming season, if you don't know what you are trying to achieve you will not know how to get there either. Just blasting balls away will not help, but structured practice concentrating on different aspects of your game is much more likely to pay off. Identify your strengths and weaknesses, work on the part of your game that is letting you down the most. If you can't work it out why not book a lesson? A lot of faults are often very easily cured and if you understand the problem then you have a chance.

Teeing Ground Renovations
The renovation and leveling of some of the Teeing Grounds has commenced this week, with the introduction of the new Winter Tees this has allowed the existing teeing areas and surrounds to get a bit of a rest. This also allows for work to be undertaken on some of the problem areas in our course development plan.

Nike Vapor Range - now in stock
The European release of the new Nike Vapor range was Saturday 31st January. This range of clubs will continue on from the success of Covert over the last couple of years, Covert especially with the Driver has seen excellent growth since it was released, but having been lucky enough to test the whole new Vapor range at Nike's Performance Centre at Archerfield GC at the release event last September, this range will move the bar even higher.
There are three different Drivers; Vapor Speed, Vapor Flex and Vapor Pro - which was the Driver Rory McIIroy put straight into play to great effect at the Ryder Cup. All of these Drivers continue with the Covert Cavity Back design but with the addition of FlyBeam and a Compression Channel to enhance the NexCOR face, this gives an even more stable and forgiving club but generates even more ball speed, they all have FlexLoft so can be fine tuned to your exact launch conditions.
There are also two different ranges of Fairways and Hybrids, Vapor Flex which has adjustable loft and Vapor Speed which is fixed. There is also three new irons; 1. Vapor Pro which has major design input from Tiger, this is modern muscle design and the blade replacement. I must say though that it is the most user friendly blade I have ever used, so much so that I will be playing this club while in the past I have always played the Pro Combo. 2. Nike Lunar Control III - now in stock!
Rory McIIroy had a major input to the design of this new shoe for 2015, by moving the spikes more to the outer edges and the addition of an extra spike these shoes are exceptionally stable to the ground, the shoe also has a wider base and is lower to the ground than the existing shoe creating a further feeling of stability, with the addition of a new carbon fiber mid foot shank, the shoe is very laterally strong, this lateral support is added to with the improved Flywire technology that wraps around your foot, the sole still has full length Lunarlon cushioning for responsive cushioning. It is amazing how much research and development goes into golf shoes as well as equipment.
