The Competition season is off and running, it was great to see so many members playing in Saturday's March Hare Medal. The first medal of the year is always a tough one with the Tee's going back, chilly conditions and a Medal card in your hand for the first time for a while, last weekend was no different and the Competition Scratch Score went up to 74 making it a reductions only competition, Wayne Gray continued his good form, fresh from winning the Winter League he was the overall Medal winner with 85-13=72. Nigel Bunn 82-9=73 topped Division I from Dave Bridges 82-8=74 and Chris Hawkins 81-6=75 with Chris also winning the Best Gross. Declan Morgan 92-16=76 was runner up to Wayne in Division II after a tie with Ron Needham 92-16=76. Faz Mohammed 100-26=74 secured Division III from Keith Manning 99-21=78 and Colin Burton 102-22=80.
The Two's Sweep was a good pay out with only Pete Seymour, Chris Hawkins, Darren Hunt and Jim Stephenson securing the magic number. There is a Bogey this weekend and a Pairs Stableford the following Sunday, the Bogey is the normal draw system and the Pairs Stableford is book your own tee times in the shop.
Ladies Medal - Tuesday, 10 March
Ruth Rickett 92-16=76
Gill Wilson 106-29=77
The World Golf Championship at Doral saw lots of balls in the water and the odd club! The Blue Monster is a very long golf course with plenty of water so it was no coincidence that the big hitters were left to fight it out. JB Holmes first round of ten under 62 was just an incredible round of golf on that course, putting in perspective that the four round winning total for Dustin Johnson was only nine under with JB one shot further back and Bubba Watson third on seven under who were the three longest hitters for driving distance last week. I don't think I can remember so many balls going in the water, at one point in the coverage that was all that we were watching, it was a little bit unique that both Dustin and JB achieved hole in ones in Saturday's third round, both at the fourth hole although they weren't playing together.

Identify your strengths and weaknesses, work on the part of your game that is letting you down the most. If you can't work it out why not book a lesson? A lot of faults are often very easily cured and if you understand the problem then you have a chance.

NEW PING Cadence TR Putters -Now in Stock
The new Cadence TR putter range utilizes different weight face inserts to fit golfers for their stroke tempo and feel preference. Traditional weight inserts (blue in colour) typically fit mid-to-faster tempos and can improve lag putting and the Heavy Inserts (black) match slower strokes and can make for better short putting, both inserts have the next generation True-Roll technology which helps with off centre hits to give a consistent ball speed.
Nike Vapor Range - now in stock
The European release of the new Nike Vapor range was Saturday 31st January. This range of clubs will continue on from the success of Covert over the last couple of years, Covert especially with the Driver has seen excellent growth since it was released, but having been lucky enough to test the whole new Vapor range at Nike's Performance Centre at Archerfield GC at the release event last September, this range will move the bar even higher.
There are three different Drivers; Vapor Speed, Vapor Flex and Vapor Pro - which was the Driver Rory McIIroy put straight into play to great effect at the Ryder Cup. All of these Drivers continue with the Covert Cavity Back design but with the addition of FlyBeam and a Compression Channel to enhance the NexCOR face, this gives an even more stable and forgiving club but generates even more ball speed, they all have FlexLoft so can be fine tuned to your exact launch conditions.
There are also two different ranges of Fairways and Hybrids, Vapor Flex which has adjustable loft and Vapor Speed which is fixed. There is also three new irons; 1. Vapor Pro which has major design input from Tiger, this is modern muscle design and the blade replacement. I must say though that it is the most user friendly blade I have ever used, so much so that I will be playing this club while in the past I have always played the Pro Combo. 2. Vapor Pro Combo is a combination of Precision and Power offering a great looking precision club with some forgiveness and then there is 3. the Vapor Speed iron which is all about Power and Distance, this is really a phenomenal golf club, it is very easy to use and just flies.
With all golf clubs it essential to be fitted for your launch conditions and individual swing characteristics, this range is no different so I would definitely recommend that you book a fitting. I am very confident that I can find you extra distance and consistency within this range of clubs.

Nike Lunar Control III - now in stock!
Rory McIIroy had a major input to the design of this new shoe for 2015, by moving the spikes more to the outer edges and the addition of an extra spike these shoes are exceptionally stable to the ground, the shoe also has a wider base and is lower to the ground than the existing shoe creating a further feeling of stability, with the addition of a new carbon fiber mid foot shank, the shoe is very laterally strong, this lateral support is added to with the improved Flywire technology that wraps around your foot, the sole still has full length Lunarlon cushioning for responsive cushioning. It is amazing how much research and development goes into golf shoes as well as equipment.
