Congratulations to Zach Johnson that was certainly a well-earned victory. I think it is fair to say there were plenty of talking points over the five days with some very mixed weather providing lots of different challenges. There is always something special about the Open Championship but an Open at St Andrews is extra special, I am sure every top golfer wants a victory at the Home of Golf on their CV, Zach Johnson can now add his name to the long list of great former champions.

Mens Results

Nigel Clare top scored with 40 points in Sunday's Stableford, Nigel won Division Three from Steve Ayre 38 points and Stuart Coleman 36 points. Brian Harrison 38 points secured Division One from Paul Chiverton 35 points and Paul Day 34 points. Clint Allen 35 points topped Division Two from Ady Bonnett 33 points and Declan Morgan 32 points.

The Two's Sweep winners and qualifiers were Steve Butler, Paul Day, Sean Buckle, Colin Lockwood, Ady Bingham & Spencer Adams.

The Mid Week Stableford produced some very good scoring and one exceptional score. Steve Ray scored a fantastic 43 points in winning Division One by five points from Paul Pamphillon 38 points with Chris Hides 37 points in third. John Smith 38 points took Division Two from Clive Springham 35 points and Dave McQuillen 34 points.

The Two's Sweep winners were Terry Kavanagh, Norm Wainwright, Alan Buckby, Mat Deegan, Tom Bingley, Keith Howsam & Gary Kew.

Team Results

It was an excellent weekend for both the A & B Scratch teams, the A team secured the title and promotion after a four matches to two matches win at home to Sutton Bridge making their record this year so far, played seven won six lost one with a plus hole difference of eighteen.

The B Team produced the performance of the weekend though, they played away to Sutton Bridge the only team to have beaten them this year and produced a fantastic three and a half to two and a half victory. This means that with one game to go a victory at home to Gedney Hill will also secure the league and promotion, if results go there way that may happen before the game is even played.

Well done to everyone involved, it has been an outstanding season, let's keep it going in the last couple of games.

Ladies Results

Congratulations to Ruth Rickett and Helena Banks who won the Ladies Club Championship gross and nett respectively. Ruth won the gross title by a commanding eight shots in the end after being one behind Anne Edwards from the first round. Helena Banks finished third on countback after a tie with Vicky Woodward. Helena shot a nett 67 in round two to overcome a ten shot deficit to first round leader Sue Lenaghan, Helena's 144 total was one shot ahead of Cherry Harpham 76+69=145 with Anne Edwards 70+77=147 in third and Sue Lenaghan 67+81=148 in fourth.

Waste Area 16th Hole

The waste area on the 16th Hole is now back in play. This sandy area is classed as "Through the Green" and is NOT a bunker so your club may be grounded in this area. 

The Brain Tumour Charity - Holly Locke Memorial Fund

One of our members, Ian Locke, is doing a sponsored bike ride from Lands End to Marshall Meadow, which is a grand total of 630 miles between 6th and 12th September to raise money for the The Brain Tumour Charity - Holly Locke Memorial Fund. Ian tragically lost his daughter Holly on the 23rd November 2014 aged just 22, Holly was diagnosed with a tumour in February 14 which she successfully fought off only for a second one to be found around the stem of her brain.
