Greetings from Mark Templeman
Thorney Golf Centre - PGA Golf Professional

Greetings,

Competition results

Stuart Stirling and Rob Edwards had a great weekend, first of all they won the Peacock Pairs on Saturday and then teamed up with Jim Dudley & Les Burton on Sunday to win the Texas Scramble. They scored 42 pts on Saturday for a narrow victory over a six way tie on 41 pts headed by Ian Booty & John Unwin on count back for second place ahead of Dave Whiting & Ron Needham, Lee Woodward & Gav Heaton, Carlton Grogan & Angelo Antonucci, Ruth Rickett & Georgia Sly and Ben Templeman & Ash Anthony.
The Two's Sweep winners were Ian Booty, Ben Templeman, Dave Buckle, Brian Towers, Nigel Bunn, Brian Harrison, Rob Drewery, Sean Buckle, Brendan Greville, Ian MacDonald & Mark Johnson.

The scoring was also very close in the ever popular Texas Scramble on Sunday, Stuart, Rob, Jim and Les scored an excellent 56.4 to win by 0.4 from myself, Nick Burbridge, Pete Seymour and Ben Templeman 58-1.2 = 56.8, with Nigel Bunn, Gav Heaton, Paul Day & Ian Weller who also shot 56.8 in third on countback, just behind in 56.9 were Dep Patel, Rob Drewery, Pete Roberts & Colin Lockwood with Angelo Antonucci, Paul Bishop, Graham Wilson & Andy Hunt 57.3 in fourth. The nearest the pin winners were 2nd Hole Steve Nelson, 7th Hole Stuart Pettit, 11th Hole Myself and 17th Dave Buckle.

Giovanni Rizzo 37 pts was the top scorer in Wednesday's Mid-Week Stableford securing Division I from Ben Templeman and John Carpenter on 35 pts, John Smith 36 pts won Division II from Danny Huddlestone and Clive Springham who tied on 34 pts. The Two's Sweep winners were Ben Templeman, Brian Tarrant & Alan Knight.

It was great to see Jason Day secure his first Major title winning the USPGA at Whistling Straits, this course will host the Ryder Cup in 2020 and with around 1,000 bunkers on the course it should make a great matchplay course. The course looked a great challenge and certainly punished the wayward shots but it did reward good shots as well and Jason Day's twenty under winning total is the lowest in Major history and was good enough for a three shot victory over Jordan Spieth. I think it is fair to say Jordan has had a good year! winning the first two Majors and then finishing one shot behind in the other two which is a staggering achievement and has helped him climb to World No One, with Rory returning to full fitness I am sure there will be a great rivalry over the next few years along with the established stars and the excellent crop of younger players coming through.

Scratch Knockout

The leading eight players from the Club Championship Gross qualify for the Scratch Knockout, the draw is below, games must be played by Sunday 23rd August.

Brendan Greville v Jason Willis
Mickey Moore v Ash Anthony
Rob Drewery v Gav Heaton
Pete Corley v Paul Day

New Cleveland 588 RTX 2.0 Wedges BUY ONE GET ONE HALF PRICE!

Cleveland Wedges were the top selling Wedge brand in 2014 and this new version promises even more spin and control, the grooves are now 15% sharper and the new micro milled Rotex face gives these wedges the most surface roughness allowed. Wedges come in Low, Standard and High Bounce, the right bounce for you're particular swing type is crucial, too high can cause thinned shots and too low fat shots. Along with needing the right loft to fit yardage gaps, the correct bounce plus the options of two different finishes and either blade or cavity back, being fitted for a wedge is very important. This year we have invested in a Cleveland Wedge fitting cart to enable us to tailor your wedges to youe own individual needs.
